Last Sunday

Ford Griffith opened class with a prayer and the following announcements:

The PACE class will not meet next Sunday, Christmas Eve. Make plans to participate in one of the Lessons and Carols services in the Sanctuary.

PACE will meet on Sunday, Dec. 31st for a program summary Sunday.  You will have the opportunity to provide the Program Committee with your feedback on the lessons presented during the year and the topics you would like to hear in the future.  The Program Committee does an amazing job in planning our lessons and your input is crucial to their work.  Also on Dec. 31st, we will have Social Sunday.  One last chance to enjoy the goodies of the season before your New Year’s Resolutions kick in….

PLEASE NOTE:  from Ken Rorie regarding a change in date for the Brookdale service in January:

Our normal Brookdale devotional schedule would have us providing the service on January 28th. Since PACE has arranged a visit to the
biblical museum for January 28th, I did not want to ask for volunteers for Brookdale and have providing the Brookdale devotional interfere with a visit to the museum, etc. I contacted Brookdale and arranged to "swap" Sundays with the group that normally provides the service on the second Sunday of the month. That means we need to provide the Brookdale service on January 14th, rather than our normal January 28th. Sign ups will begin in our next class meeting.

Sign ups began for the Ladies Brunch that will be January 20, 2018, 10:00 AM at Café de France.  Contact Prissy Wisnewski if you have questions.

Mark your calendars for a field trip to the Museum of Biblical Arts on Sunday, January 28th, 2018.  The class will meet for lunch after Sunday School then enjoy the special exhibits at the museum.  Sign up for this event will begin in January.

The PACE Class will serve dinner for the Journey of Hope meeting on Thursday, February 8th.  Contact Marv Petsel if you would like to help.

Last Sunday’s lesson was presented by Nelson Cain who showed parts of the video “Walking the Bible: A Journey by Land Through the Five Books of Moses” [Bruce Feiler].  The video serves as background information for two speakers we will hear in the coming weeks – Rev.Tammy Galloway, who will present a lesson on Israel and Palestine, and Howard Cohen, who will present a two-week series on Judaism.

If you would like to hear more about the video, I found a recorded presentation by Bruce Feiler on C-Span at:  The video is also available for check-out in the CUMC library.  Bruce Feiler traces the journeys of Moses, traveling through the desert areas chronicled in the Bible.  Throughout the journey, Bruce Feiler interacts with people of the regions and religious leaders of various faith traditions to develop a fuller understanding of the recorded history of the times.  It was fascinating.  I look forward to the coming lessons. Thanks, Nelson for effectively setting the stage for our future topics.

Snacks were provided by Debbie Morina, who treated us to quite a delicious spread.

Sandra Homoky offered the closing prayer.

Betty Estill fell in her garage. She injured her knee and wrist; is seeing an orthopedist tomorrow.

The Hurds asked for prayers for Paul’s sister in Santa Barbara. They were evacuated due to fires and have been told they lost everything.
Sandra Homoky’s three-year-old great-grandson has a serious case of mastoiditis which required scraping of the bone...  he may have some hearing loss.

This information came today from Roy Crutchfield:  Anne's mom is now in a nursing home and starting rehab. Prayers for them as we progress down this path to a hopeful recovery.

Barb Wheat gave a good report on a former PACE class member, Tom Mello. He is working at Home Depot, looks great and seems to be happy.

Wisnewski’s parents celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Dave and Prissy will spend the holiday with them.

Anne Roddy got to spend time with her granddaughter from North Carolina, who was here visiting.

Barb Wheat reported her dinner group met.

As a result of the generosity of the PACE Class, two significant offerings were delivered this week:

The HOTC offering for the homeowners, Kwami and Betty, final amount was $425.

The offering for the First Baptist Church – Sutherland Springs, TX was $1050.

Join a Committee!

A new Sunday School year begins at the beginning of September and some people are needed to step up and take a leadership position. All of the committees in the PACE class are working hard to make the Class vibrant with great programs and great fellowship. All members are strongly encouraged to be a part of one of the committees. Volunteers and those who can help when needed are especially needed for these committees: Care, Leadership, Greeters, and Program.
